SAN FRANCISCO, January 24, (THEWILL) – The Ministry of Defence Tuesday withdrew soldiers from Lagos roads following their deployment in the wake of protests after the removal of fuel subsidy.

Recall that several human rights activists and groups had challenged the federal government on the deployment of soldiers in various parts of the state - Ojota, Ketu, Jibowu, et cetera.

There has been no formal statement from the Nigerian Army or the Lagos State Government concerning the latest development.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola had written to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to remove the soldiers from Lagos describing their deployment as undemocratic.
